That’s right, even in the church’s beginnings, people fell asleep during sermons. I read a couple commentaries on this verse, and one pulled the punishment card. I found that pretty funny. Most claimed that just bacuase it was really late, and the room was probably hot and stuffy, and he was at the window to get some air, yadda yadda. What I found interesting is that no one seems to acknowledge that maybe the kid (or man) was just bored of the sermon and fell asleep. As if paul was SO amazing that there was absolutely NO WAY you could sleep through one of his sermons naturally. Have you ever been to church? I’m sure if you have you could find some people who don’t seem to care that much. Or kids of parents there who are there just because it’s what happens on sunday, (that would have been me.)
I imagine Paul was really interesting to listen to, so I’m not saying that Eutychus was bored or anything. Mostly I’m complaining against the attitude that sermons are so important that your not allowed to be bored during them. Look, some people are really boring, and some of those people are pastors and preachers. If your into Jesus, and really want to learn or listen or whatever, then you can get something out of that guys sermon regardless of how he delivers it. But let’s not hold it against people if they drift off into sleep, or doodle on the bulletin, (also me,) or even fiddle with their phones. Pastors aren’t Jesus. They’re not speaking with the voice of god. They are intelligent people trying to make sense of the word of god and teaching that to you. I think God would understand if you fell asleep during a boring Speech, religious content aside. I’ve heard He’s pretty forgiving like that.
Imagine the churches who think that Eutychus really did die for his sin of sleeping. No wonder some churches have coffee available all the time.
If you don’t know what a sermon is, it’s usually an hour long speech on something found in the bible.
On a non opinionated rant note, There was no comic last week, and no explanation. Sorry. I was on vacation and just never found time to do one. Hopefully won’t happen again. Anywho, back to regular a schedule for me, so expect the usual, a new comic every Saturday, (at anytime in the day, cause I’m only sorta reliable..)

By all accounts paul was a pretty intense speaker, so it probably wasnt boring. But then, thats all in the ear of listener isnt it.
