Babeling

Genesis 11:5-7

The tower of Babel. (If that’s not clear…) Now here’s a good example of god steering humanity onto it’s desired course without obliterating or destroying anything. He’s so clever. I find the Old Testament in general pretty perplexing. God does some strange stuff. And so does humanity. Lots of strangeness really.  Bruxy Cavey (I’m sure I’m gonna quote this guy a-lot) said something like God meets people where they are, and works with that. Therefore, pre-Jesus people were pretty screwy, and God responded appropriately. Anyway.

My Bible notes say something like God split up humanity because they were all sticking to one city, when he commanded them to spread all over the earth. But that’s dumb, I imagine if they kept growing, they’d do that anyway. My assumption is God didn’t feel humanity was ready for the crazy things it was about to discover and invent. And also they scoffed at him, always a bad idea in the OT (Old Testament.) I mean, If babel was already building such a crazy impressive structure, and God even says, that with them sharing the same language they’re gonna be able to do almost anything. The key here is communication. Now, what in the last hundred years has come farther than anything else in our world. Right? Communication? The phone, cell phones, internet, iwhatever’s. If back In babel times they got to where we are now so soon, I don’t imagine the world would have survived long enough for Jesus to come around.

And while we’re assuming things, who’s to say that speaking the same language back then referred to people literally speaking the same language. Maybe they had great communication like us, maybe they had phones and internet. Hey, crazier idea’s are out there. It’s just fun to think about the possibilities.

So I’m pretty happy I managed to finish the second comic on time. I’d still really like to up it to two a week. we’ll see if that happens. I don’t think I’ll start marketing this comic untill i have about ten up, so by then i guess you’ll know if I’m doing two a week or not. For now, expect the next one next saturday again.

Thanks for reading!

Hypocrisy

Hypocrisy

Mathew 7:3

Proof that Jesus has a sense of humor.

Basically, I think Jesus is saying to not judge others when you yourself are far from perfect. One of my pet peeves (I have a-lot) Is hypocrisy, so Jesus and i have something in common. Of course i myself am a hypocrite, and i can’t stand it. I like talking about eating healthy and staying fit, Having good work ethic and lots more idealistic stuff, and yet I fail at all of these. I don’t think it’s possible for us to not be hypocrites.

Ironically i find the worlds biggest hypocrites these days to be the majority of the church. A group of people claiming they follow the teaching of Jesus, and then ignore everything he teaches. Like judging others when you’ve got that plank in your eye. I think the church has been defined by it’s judging.

I listen to a podcast pretty frequently by the Meeting House, and i think the teacher there nailed it. One of the advantages of having an all loving all knowing god that will ultimately judge us all fairly, is that we don’t have to worrying about doing it ourselves. Easier said than done, but next time you find yourself glancing at a passerby and mentally criticizing them, think of the giant plank that’s stuck in your eye blurring your vision.

Course, this is just my opinion. If you don’t agree feel free to share.

This is my first comic post. My plan for now is to update every saturday. As this is my first, i have no idea if i can realistically keep that promise, but let’s hope so! Hey, who knows, maybe i can do two a week and don’t even know it. Thanks for reading!
